With just a brief time of research,
you can discover that almost all of the top name brands of these new rubber infill systems are virtually identical
in terms of the polymer fiber content and tufting method of manufacturing. The higher
quality, long endurance turf systems always use a UV resistant Polyethylene, which is clearly
the preferred fiber material (Avoid Polypropylene and Nylon).
Unfortunately, it is also
true that some distributors and manufacturers may try to cut corners and increase their profit margins by employing not so
easily detected modifications. These “short cuts” are usually in
the areas of the quality (and thickness) of backing material and the fiber pile weight density. 75% + of the cost to produce these new turf systems is in the fiber/polymer chemical extrusions
that are used in the "grass like" fibers. Using cheaper fiber material like polypropylene,
or cutting back on the pile weight and density per square yard of the fibers, can be tempting to some manufacturers to
increase profits, but it can also result in a lower quality sports field.
If you really want to have
an accurate comparison of synthetic turf systems, BE SURE AND ASK THESE QUESTIONS:
-
Is the primary fiber
high grade Poly Ethylene?
-
What is the
fiber density per square yard? Is
it lightweight 24 oz.? Is it medium grade
33 oz.? Or is it high endurance
36 oz.? Remember- this is the weight measure per square yard of the fibers alone, not
counting the backing material.
-
What is the
backing material made of? Urethane is best!
-
How thick
and dense is the backing material?
EcoGrass and it's affiliates employs the services
of an independent textile testing laboratory to ensure that no short cuts are taken so that you get the highest quality turf
system available anywhere in the world.
